Larry Mathews comes from the South West coast of Ireland. He is a musician, singer, and the songwriter of the band and plays the fiddle 'like the speed of the wind', and his voice gives a raw and rustic feel to his music.
Over the years he has played in different musical combinations starting with his brother Terry, where they played clubs and festivals in the British folk scene, becoming one of the most sought after folk duos on that scene.
They teamed up with two other musicians to form 'Mathews, Wilson, Doonan band'
As the Mathews Brothers they performed many times on the BBC radio and television.
They played over the years on stage with Christy Moore, the Furey Brothers, Davey Johnston of the Elton John Band, Long John Baldry, Barbara Dickson, Roger Whittaker, Jethro Tull, the Dubliners, and many many more.
Larry then played with an Irish folk band in Ireland named 'Spailpin' where their single record reached the top of the Irish charts.
For a few years Larry lived and worked in Canada where he worked occasionally in the film business there with such stars as Ernest Borgnine and Michael Chickless amongst others.
Since 2005 Larry has been living in Northern Germany, where he plays with such amazing musicians as Ralph Bühr, 'mister flying fingers' as he is known in Germany.
Here he founded the band Larry Mathews Blackstone named after a river and bridge in Co Kerry, Ireland.
Since then Andi Schmidt has joined on bass guitar, one of the best bassists of the day, who can turn his hand from Johann Sebastian Bach to heavy metal at the flick of his wrist.
On percussion they are joined by Bernd Haseneder who's bodhrán and cajon playing adds to the overall amazing rhythm.
The mixture of rhythms of the Irish reels and jigs, the melancholic songs of love and pain, the foot tapping arrangements of lively Irish ballads makes for an evening of encores and standing ovations.
